-Percentage Share of NIH Funding Among Top 100 Cities, 2000 (weighted 0.5)
-Change in Percentage Share Among the Top 50 U.S. Metros for NIH Research Funding for Medical Schools and Research Institutions, 1985-2000 (weighted 0.5)
-Number of Biotechnology Related Patents Awarded, 1990-1999 (weighted 0.5)
-Nationwide Percentage Share of Biotechnology Venture Capital Investments, 1995-2001 (weighted 0.5)
-Number of Venture Capital Firms Highly Active in Biotechnology, 1995-2001 (weighted 0.5)
-Dollar Value of R&D Alliances in Pharmaceuticals/ Biotechnology, 1996-2001 (weighted 1.0)
-Number of Pharmacutical Establishments (NAICS 3254), 1997 (weighted 0.25)
